The Monachos.net Source Text Library is the collection of patristic source texts in translation that drives the content of the Monachos.net web site (in conjunction with the Secondary Text Library, which contains the site's articles, homilies, studies, etc). This library is ever expanding, and especially since collaborative work was begun with the St Pachomius Digital Library, the amount of content waiting to be edited and converted into Monachos.net formatting is immense. When complete, Monachos.net will be able to offer one of the largest collections of on-line Patristic texts in English on the internet.
The Monachos.net Library Project is an opportunity for you to join a group of over 30 volunteers, to become involved in advancing the source text library through simple at-home proof-reading and basic editing work on patristic source documents being converted for inclusion in the Monachos library. These documents are contained in web-editable files, often from printed book scans or previous on-line files, and require only to be read through carefully for small problems of typography, consistency of style (i.e. capitalisation, etc) and other minor formatting issues. The Monachos.net Library employs the MediaWiki engine, which means you can edit texts directly on-line, exactly as you would in other popular MediaWiki-driven web sites (such as Wikipedia)—so if you're familiar with the simple web-interface for editing/formatting on those sites, you're more than ready to edit documents on Monachos.net.
To be involved with the Monachos.net Library Project, you need have no specialisation or specific education in theology or patristic studies—only an ability carefully to read through documents in English and make typographical corrections and those of formatting style (for which a style guidelines sheet is provided, as well as formatting instructions). The time commitment to the Project can be as little or great as desired: documents assignments will be sent to you on request, and you can edit them on-line at your leisure; the timeline is yours. In gratitude for your assistance, credit will be given on relevant Monachos.net pages for the work put forward by Project participants.
The assistance of members and readers with this Library Project is of immense help in furthering progress on the large amount of 'pending work' in our Library files, and making additional patristic texts available to the wider community more quickly. We thank you in advance for your assistance! (See below for details on taking part in this project.)
